Student Financial Assistance Estimator (SFAE)

The Student Financial Assistance Estimator (SFAE) is an interactive Web application that can be used by full-time students to estimate their annual student loan amount.

The estimator has been designed to show the amount of assistance you could potentially receive from the Canada Student Loans Program (CSLP) and participating provincial programs.

Student Category

This section collects basic student category data required in the needs assessment calculation.

Please Note: Since entitlement varies from province to province, the values used in this tool are approximations. These assessments will be subject to criteria set by individual provincial loan authorities. This tool currently only estimates the assessed financial need for full-time studies

Single-Parent Student
Student who has legal and/or physical custody and responsibility for supporting a child or children.

Single Dependent Student
A student living 'at home' or 'away from home' during their study period who is considered to be financially dependent on parent(s), guardian(s), sponsor(s) or other supporting relative(s).

Single Independent Student
Student who is considered to be financially independent of his/her parent(s), guardian(s) or sponsor(s).

Married/Common-Law Student
For the purposes of the Canada Student Loans Program, this refers to students who have been living in a situation similar to a conjugal relationship for at least one year, or who is married.
