Too Few or No Results? Broaden Your Search.

  1. Eliminate your search restrictions (do not specify Location, Institution Type, Language of Study, Category, etc).
  2. Check the spelling of your keywords or search terms.
  3. Use fewer search terms in your query.
  4. Try alternate synonyms.
  5. Use the Any Words option.

Too Many Results? Refine Your Search.

  1. Limit your search (specify Location, Institution Type, Language of Study, Category, etc).
  2. Use more search terms in your query.
  3. Use the All Words or Exact Phrase options.

All Words

The All Words option will result in fewer records retrieved.

All Words searches for the occurrence of every keyword within the text of the record. All specified keywords must appear within an individual record in order to be retrieved.

Example: A search for WESTERN UNIVERSITY - will return results where western and university appear within the same record.

Any Words

The Any Words option will result in more records retrieved.

Any Words searches for the occurrence of one or more keywords within the text. One or more of the keywords must appear within the text of a record in order to be retrieved.

Example: A search for WESTERN UNIVERSITY - will return results where either western or university appears in the record.

Exact Phrase

The Exact Phrase option will result in fewer records retrieved.

Exact Phrase searches for the keywords exactly as they appear in the search query.

Example: A search for WESTERN UNIVERSITY - will return results where the keywords western university appear as a phrase in the same record. The results must be an exact match in order to be retrieved.
